- 1 box brownie mix (prepared according to package instructions or substitute homemade brownie)
- 12 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 1/2 sticks, melted and cooled until warm)
- 1 cup light or dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F and prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan with foil and non-stick spray.
- Prepare brownie mix according to package instructions and pour into the pan.
- In the same bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugars, egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract.
- Sift in flour, baking soda, and salt, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips.
- Drop dollops of cookie dough onto brownie batter.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until cookie layer is set but soft.
- Cool completely before slicing into squares.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing.
Check at the 25-minute mark to prevent over-baking.
Add extra chocolate chips on top before baking for more richness.
